Singer, Superstar and style icon Rihanna, is looking for the next big superstar clothing designer for the fashion world. In this Sky Living Television T.V program styled to rock with mentors Lysa Cooper, Henry Holland and Nicola Roberts.
Styled To Rock has 8 designers left in the competition, with the dream of designing an outfit for Rihanna, only 4 weeks away for the winning designer.
Lysa Cooper stylist to Rihanna asks the designers into the mentors office to announce the designers next task challenge. The challenge is to design and make fashion outfits for one of the UK's biggest girl groups, The Saturdays. The girl group The Saturdays members consist of Rochelle Humes, Una Healy, Mollie King, Vanessa White, Frankie Sandford. The challenge is to design clothing outfits for all 5 girls which will then be photographed to appear in The Saturdays next Official Calender.
The theme of the challenge forthis edition of Styled To Rock, is to be based on a ground breaking 1950's film The Wild One, famed for Marlon Brandon and his iconic portrayal of gang leader Johnny Strabler.
The Styled To Rock designers have 3 hours to outline their designs for the oufits for The Saturdays calender photo shoot, then pitch the ideas to The Saturdays themselves. The Saturdays girl group will then decide which two designs are their favorites, so that the designers will then be separated into 2 teams to design and make the 2 complete outfits for girl group The Saturdays.
Each individual designer enters the Styled To Rock mentors office to talk about their ideas with The Saturdays, Steve is first to pitch his design ideas followed by Ralph, Jacqueline, Zainab, Meganne, Ricky, Heidi and then Ben. All the designers carried out good presentations of their design ideas, but only 2 designs will be picked as favorites by The Saturdays. After deliberation, The Saturdays decide that the 2 designs they most like are that from designers Meganne and also Heidi, and so these 2 designers will be the leaders of each of their groups, designing their ideas for Pop Group, The Saturdays.
For this challenge the Styled To Rock mentors have preselected the design teams so as to maintain a mix of capabilities through out both teams of designers.
The two teams are ;
Team leader - (pic. below left) Meganne, Ricky, Ralph, Zainab.
Team leader - (pic. below right) Heidi, Ben, Steve, Jacqueline.
Heidi comes up with designs which are girly yet tough with a combination of bodices, studs and free flowing chiffon,Meganne's design involve's pastel colours, leather and print figure hugging.
So the shopping for fabrics and materials begins, Henry Holland goes to visit both teams in the midst of the shopping trip, to oversee the buying. The when everything has been purchased, it's back to the design studio, and to the business of making the oufits for girl group The Saturdays. It is a difficult challenge for any designer to dress 5 people separately in different outfits and yet achieve one coherent look, but the two styled to rock teams of designers, are cracking on and making the visions a reality.
Showcase day, and the designers in Styled To Rock are off to girl group, The Saturdays, Official Calander photo-shoot in East London. The 2 teams of designers attend with the clothing they have made and styled from head to toe. The Saturdays will have the photographer take pictures of both teams outfits and then judge them to pick a winning team of designers, with only the winners appearing in The Saturdays official calander. The losing team of designers will face the mentors for one to be eliminated and asked to leave Styled To Rock.
One thing that becomes clear is that not all is well for one of the 2 teams of designers, and that team is Meganne's, it would seem that there are no shoes.... Meganne says she bought shoes from the internet and that they have not arrived, she is very upset, the mentors are concerned....no shoes equals no outfit. Luckily The Saturdays stylist, Frank Strachan, is on hand to help, it just so happens he has some shoes available, lucky team Meganne.
For the photoshoot the girl group The saturdays are to pose in a set featuring tyres and barrels with old vintage motorbikes, while they wear the oufits, designed by the Styled To Rock designers. Both photoshoots seem to go very well.(Team Meganne above left).(Team Heidi above right).
After the photo shoot the teams head back to the design studio to await the results of both winner and loser of this challenge. The teams stand in front of a large tv television screen and await the winning teams photo to appear as picked by The saturdays. Shock,tears, outrageous happiness, Meganne's team win, Heidi's team lose. So despite no shoes, The Saturdays have chosen the photograph fpr the official calander, to be that of the one wearing Meganne's team designs.
The mentors Henry Holland, Lysa Cooper and Nicola Roberts, now have the hard decision of eliminating one of the losing team. The mentors ask Heidi and her team into the mentors office. Heidi and the team are then asked questions about the task before the mentor judges can review a difficult decision.When the mentor judges have listened enough the losing teammis asked to step out of the mentors office while they deliberate amongst each other. When a decision has been reached, the losing team re-enter the mentors office for the result of who will be eliminated from Styled To Rock.
The result announced is based on overall participation, and it has been decided that Ben should be eliminated and asked to leave Styled To Rock.
Ben pictured above remained positive by his experience of Styled To Rock, but he is obviously upset, though composes himself, he has enjoyed the experience so much.
